Massive lathe will turn on the juice
The Boro Foundry has invested £350,000 in a new full CNC
Tuscan lathe with a massive 8m
between centres and a 950mm
swing. The machine will allow
Boro to take on new work such
as large shafts for power
stations and steel plants.
The Tuscan LL950 supplied by
Axe & Status (01908 647707) is of
an evolutionary five bed way
design which overcomes
interference between the carriage
and steady rest when turning long
shafts or hollow tubes. The LL950
is available in sizes from 4m to 8m.
Boro Foundry says that it has
already received orders
commissioned on the back of this
investment.
The foundry, based in Lye,
Stourbridge, combines a large
on-site subcontract machining
facility with the ability to produce
castings up to 8 tonnes in iron,
steel, stainless and iron alloys – including special customer specific
materials as well as
standard ranges.
It can also offer full 3D
modeling and reverse engineering.
A large amount of its business is
for power generation, renewables
and heavy engineering, while it
also manufactures a range of
street furniture. It has been
involved in a variety of restoration
projects, including St Pancras
International Station, where it
manufactured all the internal and
external cast iron drainage.
The Boro Foundry is exhibiting
at Subcon 2009, from 9 to 11 June
at the NEC, on Stand 101.
